So if you want a digital camera capable of true photo quality, how many megapixels are enough--six? ten? See "Film vs. Digital" by Max Lyons.

Here's a new (1/28/04) article touting the consistently lower cost of traditional film cameras over digital--even when it comes to printing. See "Why Bother with a Digital Camera?" by Robyn Peterson

If you're really interested in a detailed comparison of film vs. digital, see Sally Wiener Grotta's June 25, 2001 article, "Digital vs. Film: The Real Low-Down" from Extremetech magazine.

For those of you who want to research things before buying: the best buying guide I have seen is by PC Magazine: http://www.pcmag.com/category2/0,4148,9097,00.asp?o=3&p=2#recent_reviews. The only caution: check the date of the information you find. Any price information or comparison of features older than late 2003 may be out of date.

More on digital photography from PC Magazine: first, 20 digital imaging tips, ranging from how to take better digital photos to how to speed up file transfer.

In a separate article they list seven ongoing problems with digital photography and recommend new camera technologies which have addressed them.

Digital Photography Information
I get so many questions about digital cameras and photography, and things keep changing so quickly, that I decided to start a blog. To see what I already have up on the LTC site, visit the LTC page. (You'll find a link to this blog there.)

Here are today's additions: PC Magazine is calling the Olympus E1 "the new standard in prosumer cameras." At $1800, it's a little steep for most of us, but the range of features is astonishing.

At $700, the Fuji FinePix S7000 delivers 6.3 megapixels--meaning that it is capable of near-photo quality output.

Stay tuned for more info; e-mail me at geverett@stonehill.edu if there's something you would like to add to this blog.
